Shop less choose better – One of the five steps to a more ethical wardrobe and I’ve been having a think about how this can be done a lot lately. It’s not about completely cutting out buying clothes – this is one of life’s great pleasures right? It’s more about buying outfits, or items of clothing that can be worn many different ways, for lots of different occasions.
I gave myself this challenge earlier this week, here’s an example of one item lots of looks, featuring the Striped cotton sweater dress from Scotch and Soda, available in the shop or online here.
It’s a lovely simple cotton dress, dark blue and white striped, with a red set of lips appliqued on the front, and a gorgeous triangle design incorporated into the pattern at the back, (that’s my favourite part).
It’s made of high quality sweater material so is great for this transition into spring! It’s also very versatile, Here are three ways of wearing this dress…shop less, choose better!
One of AIRR Clothing’s principles for the shop is that everything must be high quality and well made. This way you know that the clothing will last a long time.
‘Maison Scotch items are made with great sensitivity to the world around us. Maison Scotch have taken the responsibility of making fashion more sustainable and improving working conditions in the fashion industry. Maison Scotch strive to offer fair, social, healthy and safe conditions for workers in their supply chain’
This dress looks great over skinny jeans, tights, bare legs, or leggings (almost any colour in fact). With a bolero, jacket, blazer or cardigan. Or one of the lovely Maison Scotch sweaters pulled over the top. Shoe wise, any pair or boots, trainers or sandals….it really is very easy to wear, here’s what I would wear with mine…
My every day look, with a leopard print cardigan, bamboo tights and trainers, mixing up old clothes with new. Buying one piece of clothing that can brighten up and renew the clothes you already own can be one of the easiest steps towards a more ethical wardrobe. If you are finding it difficult to style a piece of clothing you already own you can take it along to the shop where our team will be more thant happy to help!
Work wear – Worn with bamboo tights vintage Doc Martens and a cardigan or blazer can easily make this dress suitable for work!
Going out! Dressing this dress up for a night out is easy…a nice fancy pair of heels and a charity shop bag! And a lovely jacket, in my case this furry black number was found on eBay! Buying second-hand, preloved and vintage items of clothing and accessories wherever possible is very ethical…and fun, I’m not a huge fan of shopping for brand new clothes, but the challenge to find a preloved item to jazz up any outfit, at a lower price than new clothes, makes the whole ordeal a lot more appealing! Ebay and local charity shops are great places to start, or if you can, pop into AIRR and see what you can find on the new vintage and preloved rail. Support your local shops, and ethical brands where you can!
