I love a great big jumper, a snuggly knitted beauty which wraps all around you and preferably reaches your knees. However in Europe at this time of year it can look like North of the wall in Game of Thrones, but, really is not quite that cold!
In minutes you find yourself sweltering in an only slightly cold damp environment and having to take said massive jumper off, then finding yourself to be cold in only the small vest top you had on underneath!
My conclusion this year to tackling this, our ever changing temperatures, and not being caught out by how things look verses how they actually are is…. drum roll please….. layers!
Layers that mean you don’t have to give up those lovely textured knits (we have some great Bibico, Komodo & People Tree organic wool items) but, you can still layer them over cotton thinner layers. We even have Cotton knits and woven long sleeved cotton tops which are great for layering and look fantastic under bigger knits or over vest tops. Here are a few of my favourite;
These two are pure organic cotton so great for letting you and your skin breath. If any women are suffering with any kind of hormonal changes these are a great option. When I had young kids and was waking up all night I used to get really bad hot flushes, the doctor said it was due to not getting the sleep at night that allowed my hormones to level out and regulate themselves. This in anything synthetic used to feel like it trapped the heat and the heat just couldn’t escape. However, I am also, as they say in Derbyshire, a bit ‘nesh’ which means I get cold easily, so I wish I had found these natural fibres a lot sooner!
To add further layers to these two tops I would use an Eko vest underneath, made from Tencel. This is a fantastic fabric made from Tree Cellulose that is also completely natural and breathable. Its also great for sensitive skin, so ladies who are very pregnant and have stretched itchy tummies love these tops. Again great for hormonal changes and self regulating your temperature.
There is even a few still in the sale if your quick :
This combination just needs a knitted Cardigan or jumper slung over the top to complete it for really easy weekend wear, day out or smartened up with a pencil skirt and boots for work. This People Tree one is beautiful:
Our new brand Bibico also has some great traditional textured knits that are perfect for layering over the top of things.
If your just hanging out at the weekend or going out for the day then all of this can be paired with a pair of Maison Scotch Jeans for super comfy but stylish outfits, add a little bit of colour to a winter wardrobe with these two;
If you need something a bit more dressy and your not sure how to branch out of tops and jumpers in Winter, then I would layer an EKO vest with one of the gorgeous Maison Scotch dresses. This Peplum one is just begging for a big chunky knit or fluffy grey cardigan over it and some big boots and tights:
It’s the perfect day-to-night dress, easy to match with other things and wear for days out or to work, this is one of those items that can give everything else in your wardrobe a bit of a lift.
So, thats it for my winter dressing tip for the coming transitional warm, wet, cold season! Keep checking back for weekly style tips for the season ahead.
