The Northern Light and AIRR Clothing are partnering up to show the Documentary ‘The True Cost’ at AIRR’s Autumn Winter Launch event this September the 19th from 6:30pm. We thought we would take a look at what being such a unique and contemporary cinema is like in a northern rural setting!
Wirksworth where the cinema is located, was without a cinema from 1967, when the original town cinema closed its doors for the last time. The Northern Light Cinema brings back the glamour of the big screen to the town, providing a cinema fit for Wirksworth – charming, arty, quaint, quirky, friendly, sometimes challenging but always good fun.
The auditorium seats 52 in reclaimed and re upholstered style, with 3 deluxe vintage sofas, 6 eclectic armchairs and 40 refurbished 1930s cinema seats.
The bar blends the best of British with a touch of Manhattan in its 50’s interior with geometric patterned floor and ercol style seating. Esther and Paul, who have both lived and worked in the town for over 18 years, set up the cinema putting their all into transforming the former Electrical Showroom into a truly unique venue. At times it was a challenge, as bringing new things into a small town often can be, but the cinema is now a lovely asset to the town and adds to it’s already cultural arts background really well. Esther also runs the company Curiouser & Curiouser who’s lighting we have in our Wirksworth branch of AIRR Clothing (http://www.curiousa.co.uk). This, we thought, is the perfect setting for a few drinks nibbles and a look at the new collections coming into AIRR this next season! The fact that we can combine this with another important date in the Wirksworth calendar the Wirksworth Festival is even better! http://www.wirksworthfestival.co.uk/
The cinema will be open from 6pm to come and browse and have a complimentary drink. If you would like to view the film starting at 8pm tickets are available for £5.50 from https://www.thenorthernlightcinema.co.uk.
